PAW PRINTS: The Week Ahead in Ohio Athletics

ATHENS, Ohio -- It's officially Homecoming! Check out what's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints. 

FOOTBALL
Oct. 8  / vs Akron / Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium / Athens, Ohio / 2 p.m. / ESPN3 / Watch / Live Stats / Audio / Tickets    

The Ohio football team (2-3, 0-1 MAC) returns to Athens on Saturday, Oct. 8 for Homecoming. The Bobcats are set to host Akron (1-4, 0-1 MAC) at 2 p.m. at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium. The game will be seen on ESPN3. 
 
The Bobcats' matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield. Russ Eisenstein returns for his 15th season as the "Voice of the Bobcats" and will be joined by Ohio alum Rob Cornelius, who has been a part of the broadcasts for two decades.

WOMEN'S GOLF

The Ohio women's golf team is back in action for its fourth tournament of the season Oct. 3-4 at the 2022 Shirley Spork EMU Invitational at Egle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Mich. The 10 teams competing in this year's event are; Eastern Michigan, Akron, Oakland, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, Detroit Mercy, Green Bay, Western Michigan, Ohio and Loyola. 

The tournament begins with 36 holes for the first day on Monday, before concluding with 18 holes on Tuesday. Par will be set at 72.

The Ohio soccer team (6-4-1, 2-2 MAC) returns to action this weekend for two more MAC contests. Ohio begins the week at home on Thursday, Oct. 6 when the Bobcats take on Northern Illinois (5-4-2, 2-2 MAC). First touch is set for 4 p.m. at Chessa Field. Ohio closes out the weekend on the road when they head to Bowling Green, Ohio to take on Bowling Green (3-4-2, 1-1-2 MAC) on Sunday, Oct. 9. First touch is set for 1 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium. 

The Bobcats are coming off a 2-0 week where they defeated Miami, 2-0, before downing EMU in thrilling fashion on Sunday with Regan Berg recording a hat trick in the 3-2 victory. 

FIELD HOCKEY

The Ohio field hockey team (5-4, 1-2 MAC) is back in action this week for two matches. Ohio opens the weekend on Friday, Oct. 7 at Ball State (5-5,2-1 MAC) to take on the Cardinals in a MAC matchup. First touch is set for 3 p.m. at Briner Sports Complex. Ohio is back in Athens on Sunday, Oct. 9 when Ohio hosts Ohio State (5-5) at 1 p.m. at Pruitt Field. 

VOLLEYBALL

The Ohio volleyball team (8-7, 2-2 MAC) are back on the road this week for two stops in the Mid-American Conference. First, the Bobcats head to Mount Pleasant, Mich. on Thursday, Oct. 6 to take on Central Michigan (10-5, 3-1 MAC). First serve is set for 6 p.m. in McGuirk Arena. The Bobcats then head to Ypsilanti, Mich. on Friday, Oct. 7 to take on Eastern Michigan (1-15, 0-4 MAC). Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m. in  George Gervin GameAbove Center. 

SOFTBALL
Oct. 8  / vs Ohio Dominican / Ohio State Charity Classic / Buckey Field / Columbus, Ohio / 3:45 p.m.
Oct. 8  / vs Otterbein / Ohio State Charity Classic / Buckey Field / Columbus, Ohio / 6 p.m.

After their fall opener was cancelled due to rain, the Ohio softball team opens fall play on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the 2022 Ohio State Charity Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio opens play at 3:45 p.m. against Ohio Domnican and then will face Otterbein at 6 p.m. Both games will take place at Buckeye Field.
