ATHENS, Ohio -- Both Ohio basketball teams are back in action this week, and several other Bobcat teams travel to compete on the weekend as the spring semester has started in Athens. Read about it all in this week's edition of Paw Prints.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
January 11 / vs Bowling Green / Athens, Ohio / Convocation Center / 7 p.m. / Live Stats / ESPN3/+
January 15 / at Central Michigan / Mount Pleasant, Mich. / McGuirk Arena / 4:30 p.m.
Ohio will look to go 2-0 again this week, with the Bobcats first taking on Bowling Green at home on Tuesday, Jan. 11 before traveling to play Central Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 15. Jeff Bohls' squad lost to Bowling Green in the only game between the two schools last season, but went 1-0 against Central Michigan in the 2020-21 season.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
January 15 / at Central Michigan / Mount Pleasant, Mich. / McGuirk Arena / 1:00 p.m.
The women's basketball team began conference play last week, dropping a close contest to Northern Illinois. With their first scheduled game of the week postponed due to COVID-19 protocols within the Buffalo program, the Bobcats will only play once this week, taking on the Central Michigan Chippewas on Saturday, Jan. 15. The two teams split their two meetings last season, with the road team winning both times.
TRACK AND FIELD
January 14-15 / Jim Green Track and Field Invitational / Lexington, Ky. / Nutter Field House / 1:30 p.m./11:30 a.m.
The Ohio track and field team kicks off their season on Saturday, Jan. 14 and 15, as they travel to participate in the Jim Green Track and Field Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky. The event will start at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
SWIMMING
January 14 / at Akron / Akron, Ohio / 4 p.m.
The Bobcats' swimming and diving team will participate in two different events this weekend, with swimming traveling to Akron for their second meet of their spring season. Ohio picked up 217-83 victory over Marshall last week in their first meet of the spring.
DIVING
January 14-16 / at UB Diving Invite / Buffalo, Ny. / Alumni Arena: Pool and Natatorium / 11 a.m.
The Ohio diving team will be on the road to Buffalo for a three day diving invite. During the meet against Marshall,
Halli Siwik took first place in the 1-meter event and the 3-meter event.
WRESTLING
January 15 / at Northern Illinois / DeKalb, Ill. / 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT
The Bobcats wrestling team last took to the mat against Indiana, in a meeting that had no team score. However, the Bobcats were able to secure victories in six of the eight matches that took place against the Hoosiers. Ohio will look to carry that momentum into their bout with Mid-American opponent Northern Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 15. The Bobcats dropped their contest against the Huskies last season.
