PAW PRINTS: The Week Ahead in Ohio Athletics

ATHENS, Ohio
-- The Ohio football team looks to bounce back against Duquesne at Peden Stadium this Saturday, while volleyball continues to play on the road with tournament play. See what else is happening for Ohio Athletics this week in this edition of Paw Prints.

FOOTBALL 
September 9 / vs. Duquesne / Athens, Ohio. / Peden Stadium / 2 p.m. / ESPN+

Ohio is coming off a 29-9 loss to Syracuse in their first game of the 2021 season. The matchup against Duquesne will mark the first meeting between the two teams since 1948, when the Bobcats won 14-13.

September 12 / at Cleveland State / Cleveland, Ohio / Krenzler Field / 3 p.m. 


The Ohio Bobcats soccer team returns to Athens for a matchup against Northern Kentucky on Sept. 9 at Chessa Field with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. The Bobcats will then travel to Cleveland to take on Cleveland State on Sunday, Sept. 12 at Krenzler Field.  

Ohio and Northern Kentucky last met in 2019, when the Bobcats won 1-0 on the road. The match against Cleveland State will be the 10th all-time meeting between the two schools, with the Bobcats winning the last 3 out of 4 matchups.  

FIELD HOCKEY

September 11 / vs. Saint Louis / Iowa City, IA / Grant Field / 3 p.m. 


The Ohio Bobcats Field Hockey team split its first two home games with a win over Northeastern on Saturday, Sept. 4, 3-2 but fell to Michigan State 2-0 on Sunday, Sept. 5. The Bobcats will take on UC Davis in Athens on Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. before traveling to Iowa City to play back-to-back games against Iowa on Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. CT and Saint Louis on Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. CT.  

Ohio will be looking to even out the overall (2-1) series against UC Davis. The teams last played in 2019 with UC Davis winning 2-1. This will also be the second all-time meeting between the Bobcats and the Hawkeyes since 2011, when Iowa won 2-1 in Athens.

Ohio Volleyball continues its season at the K-State Invitational, hosted by Kansas State in Manhattan, KS. The Bobcats kick off the tournament with two matches on Sept. 9 against Loyola Chicago (11 a.m.) and Kansas State (8 p.m.). The final match will have the Bobcats squaring up against Fresno State at 12 p.m. on Sept. 10.  

Ohio last met Kansas State and Fresno State in the 2019 season, the Bobcats defeated Kansas State 3-2 but fell to Fresno State 3-1.  

The match against Loyola Chicago will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
