PAW PRINTS: The Week Ahead in Ohio Athletics

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio football team opens up their conference schedule on the road, soccer hopes to continue their impressive start to MAC competition, and much more. Read about the various sports and their upcoming games in this week's edition of Paw Prints.

FOOTBALL
October 2 / at Akron / Akron, Ohio / InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field / 3:30 p.m. / ESPN3

The Bobcats will shift their focus to conference play, after wrapping up their non-conference schedule with a loss to Northwestern in their last game out. Ohio and Akron met last season during the COVID-19 shortened season, with the Bobcats winning 24-10. This will be the 38th meeting overall between the two teams, with Ohio owning a winning record over the Zips all time at 22-14-1. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and fans can watch the game on ESPN3.

VOLLEYBALL

Ohio volleyball picked up their first win of the season last week, sweeping Toledo in three sets in the first match of two during the weekend. The Bobcats will hope to carry that momentum on the road, as they travel to take on Ball State in their first road conference matches of the 2021 season on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, both scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.

SOCCER

The Ohio soccer team started conference play strong last week, picking up two victories in two games, as they defeated Buffalo at home by a score of 2-1, and on the road at Akron, 1-0. The Bobcats will stay on the road to start off competition this week, as they travel to Bowling Green on Thursday (Sept. 30) with first touch scheduled for 7 p.m. Ohio will then return home for a matchup against Toledo at Chessa Field on Sunday (Oct. 3), scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m.

FIELD HOCKEY
October 1 / at Appalachian State / Boone, N.C. / Brandon & Erica M. Adcock Field / 3 p.m. 
October 3 / at Davidson / Davidson, N.C. / Belk Field / 1 p.m.

Ohio will travel to the state of North Carolina for both of their matchups this week. First up is a conference match against Appalachian State on Friday (Oct. 1), scheduled for a 3 p.m. start. The Bobcats will then travel to Davidson on Oct. 3 for a contest against the Wildcats that is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

CROSS COUNTRY
October 2 / Live at Lou Classic / Louisville, Ky. / E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park 

The men and women's cross country teams are back in action this week. The Bobcats will travel to Louisville, Ky. to compete in the Live at Lou Classic on Oct. 2. The men's race is 8,000 meters and the women will run a 5,000 meter race.

SOFTBALL

Ohio softball's fall schedule continues this week, with the Bobcats participating in the Ohio State Charity Classic on Saturday (Oct. 2). Ohio will play two games in the event. The first game against Ohio State is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., and then will be followed with a matchup against Ohio Dominican at 5:30 p.m.
