ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio Swim and Dive team began the home portion of its schedule on Saturday, falling to Buffalo, the defending MAC Champions, 190-110 at the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
"We needed to be perfect today to beat a really good team. Buffalo is the defending MAC champs and we raced them hard and won some events." said head coach
Mason Norman. "We have improved each week throughout October and now into December and the entire program is looking forward to a prelims and finals invitational in two weeks."
The Bobcats were led by sophomore
Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) and freshman
Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.) with their first-place finishes. Brust followed up from her top spots against Ball State with wins in the 100-yard Backstroke, 100-yard Butterfly and 200-yard individual medley. Strine would take the top spot in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.70.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Brust and junior
Athena Aravantinou (North Bethesda, Md.) took the top two spots with a time of 56.42 and 57.69 respectively. Aravantinou would follow up with a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.21.
Sophomore
McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) added two more top two finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.
In a close race, sophomore
Morgan Croaning (Carmel, Ind.) added another second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.68. Junior
Madeline Marks (Bentonville, Ark.) would come in third place with a time of 5:11.63.
In the 1-meter diving competition junior Halli Swiak (Fishers, Ind.) would take third place with a score of 261.08 points.
The Bobcats will return to the pool at the Magnus Cup at Cleveland State November 18
