    AKRON, Ohio ? Despite racing out to a 21-0 second-quarter lead, the Ohio football team dropped a 35-28 decision to Mid-American Conference East Division rival Akron at the Rubber Bowl on Saturday.

    Brad Young paced the Bobcats (2-8, 1-5 MAC) in defeat, rushing for 86 yards and two scores off of 18 attempts. Ryan Hawk threw for 190 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for Ohio while Scott Mayle grabbed four balls for 119 yards and a score.

    Zips quarterback Charlie Frye threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, finishing the game with 277 passing yards on 17-of-31 attempts while also rushing for 49 yards off of 11 scrambles. Bobby Hendry led the Zips (7-5, 5-3 MAC) on the ground with 51 yards and a score while Mike Brake hauled in four passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns. Hendry also registered a receiving touchdown in the victory.

    Ohio started the scoring with a six-yard touchdown run by John Taylor in the middle of the first quarter. It was the first career score for the freshman from Richmond, Va.

    Young then found the end zone on a one-yard run and Mayle hauled in a 63-yard touchdown reception for the Bobcats, giving them the 21-0 advantage midway through the second quarter.

    Akron finally responded by scoring 14 unanswered points, which included a 15-yard touchdown catch by Hendry and a 37-yard scoring reception by Brake right before the end of the first half.

    Young logged his second touchdown of the game near the beginning of the third period, scoring on a five-yard run.

    The Zips then went onto score 21 straight points in the third stanza, starting with a seven-yard touchdown catch by Brake.

    Akron?s two other touchdowns came on the ground as Hendry scored from one yard out and Frye scrambled into the end zone from 11 yards away.

    The fourth quarter would be a scoreless period with Akron holding on for the come-from-behind victory.
