Tim Knavel is in his first year as the Ohio University Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations. In his new role, Knavel will serve as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the athletic department.
During his time at Towson, Knavel played a key role in fiscal planning, budgeting and capital project planning. During his tenure with the Tigers, the department never operated in the red. He also worked with the NCAA to schedule and coordinate annual audits.
In addition, Knavel also played a role within the department's fundraising initiatives as he attended various donor events to help cultivate long-term partnerships.
He also spent 13 years with the Marriott Corporation prior to his time at Towson with the first six at the processing center in Buffalo, N.Y. and the last seven as controller of various client-owned properties in College Park, Md. (University of Maryland's Center for Adult Education); Washington, D.C. (Georgetown University's Levy Center); Long Island, N.Y. (IBM Corporation' Employee Facility - Sands Point NY); and Towson, Md. (The Marriott at Towson University).
The Buffalo, N.Y. native brings with him 29 years of experience in financial accounting and analysis. Knavel earned his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Niagara University in 1983 before he went back to school to receive his Master's Degree in Human Resource Development from Towson in 2004.
