ATHENS, Ohio– Ohio Athletics opens up the month of October with an action-packed weekend. The soccer team returns to Athens for the first time in three weeks while the field hockey team is set to host two matches at Pruitt Field this weekend, including a Sunday (Oct. 6) contest against Ohio State. The football team is also back in action following a bye week, opening up Mid-American Conference play on the road with an East Division matchup against Buffalo in Amherst, N.Y.
The volleyball team (9-6, 1-1 MAC) gets the fun started on Thursday (Oct. 3) as it makes the drive north to meet MAC East Division foe Kent State (7-7. 0-2 MAC) at 7 p.m. ET. The Bobcats conclude their weekend on Saturday (Oct. 5) at Eastern Michigan (5-9, 0-2 MAC) in a 5 p.m. ET matchup.
The soccer team (6-3-0, 1-1-0 MAC) returns to the friendly confines of Chessa Field after a four-game road trip to continue MAC play on Friday (Oct. 4) against Toledo (3-7-0, 0-2 MAC). First touch is set for 4 p.m. ET. The Bobcats wrap up action on Sunday when they host reigning MAC champion Bowling Green (4-4-2, 2-0-0 MAC) at 1 p.m. ET.
The field hockey team (4-3, 1-1 MAC) also returns to Athens for two matches this weekend, starting Saturday against MAC opponent Longwood (4-4, 1-0 MAC). First touch is set for noon ET at Pruitt Field. The Bobcats return to action on Sunday when Ohio plays host to in-state rival Ohio State (5-4, 1-2 Big 10) at 2 p.m. ET.
MAC play begins for the football team (1-3) on Saturday against the Bulls. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET at UB Stadium. Saturday's contest will be streamed live on ESPN+, with Michael Reghi and Dustin Fox on the call. The game can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield IMG College. Russ Eisenstein returns for his 12th season as the "Voice of the Bobcats." Ohio Alum Rob Cornelius has been a part of the broadcasts for two decades. WXTQ (Power 105) in Athens returns as the 11-station network's flagship. The broadcasts are also available online through TuneIn.com/OhioBobcats and on the TuneIn app.
The men's and women's cross country teams are back in action on Saturday at the Louisville Cross Country Classic, while the men's golf team also returns to the course Oct. 5-6 at the 2019 Wolfpack Intercollegiate, which will be contested at the Firestone Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C.
The women's golf concludes the weekend of action Oct. 7-8 at the 2019 Fall Preview, which is being held at the Silver Lakes Golf Club in Silver Lakes, Ohio.

Ohio went 1-1 last weekend, taking down Miami 3-1 at home. The Bobcats are now 9-6 overall and 1-1 in the MAC. The Bobcats were led by junior middle blocker Tia Jimerson with a career-high 11 blocks (three solo, eight assisted) in Ohio's four set win and added 10 kills on 19 swings. Jimerson hit .368 and had 17 total points.
Junior setter Vera Giacomazzi is No. 2 in the nation in total assists with 657. Senior outside hitter Lizzie Stephens is four kills away from 1,000 in her career with 996. Stephens is No. 21 in the nation in service aces with 27.
After four straight games on the road, the Ohio soccer team (6-4-0, 1-1 MAC) returns to Athens to continue Mid-American Conference play this weekend, taking on Toledo on Friday before wrapping up the weekend with defending MAC champion Bowling Green. Last season, Ohio defeated Toledo on the road, 1-0, however fell to Bowling Green, 3-1 during the regular season. Ohio would face the Falcons again in the MAC Tournament Semifinals, falling to BGSU, 1-0.
Sunday's game is the annual Turn It Gold match, where Ohio supports the fight against childhood cancer.

Ohio is coming off of a 1-1 weekend on the road to open MAC play, defeating Northern Illinois, 2-1, on Friday, before falling to Western Michigan, 1-0, on Sunday.
Toledo enters the matchup with the Bobcats with a 3-7-0 record and are currently on a two-game losing streak which includes defeats against Buffalo and Akron. This season, Toledo has scored 13 goals, while allowing 19 goals against. The Rockets have also recorded 94 shots, with 49 of them on goal for a .521 shots on goal percentage. Individually, Stephanie Currie leads Toledo with five goals, three assists and 13 points, while Sheridan Bufe is second on the team with five points, recording two goals and one assist. In net, Madison Perrin has seen the most action, playing in seven games while allowing 12 goals and making 35 saves in 630 minutes on the pitch.
Bowling Green enters the matchup with the Bobcats with a 4-4-2 record and are currently on a two-game winning streak which includes victories against Buffalo and Akron. This season, Bowling Green has scored 17 goals, while allowing 15 goals against. The Falcons have also recorded 129 shots, with 52 of them on goal for a .403 shots on goal percentage. Individually, Nikki Cox leads Bowling Green with four goals, three assists and 11 points, while Maureen Kennedy is second on the team with seven points, recording three goals and one assist. In net, Kathleen Duwve has seen the most action, playing in nine games while allowing 12 goals and making 21 saves in 763 minutes on the pitch.
The football team (1-3) is looking to put a halt to a three-game as it begins conference play at Buffalo. In the previous 14 seasons under the leadership of head coach Frank Solich, Ohio has gone 70-42 in MAC play and has captured four East Division titles. The Bobcats are 11-3 in conference openers under Solich and have won their last eight MAC openers.
Ohio is 15-10 all-time against Buffalo, including an 8-6 mark over the last 14 seasons under the direction of Solich. The Bobcats have gone 6-1 at home against the Bulls under Solich but are 2-5 against them in games played in Buffalo. Ohio's last win at Buffalo came on Nov. 10, 2009 -- a 27-24 victory for the Bobcats. The Bobcats last visited UB Stadium in the 2017 regular season finale, falling to the Bulls by a score of 31-24 on Nov. 24, 2017. Ohio will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak in games played at UB Stadium. In the last meeting between the Bobcats and the Bulls, Ohio dismantled the eventual MAC East Division champions, 52-17, on Nov. 14, 2018, at Peden Stadium.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Ohio cross country heads to Louisville, Ky. to take part in the Louisville Cross Country Classic this Saturday. The Bobcats come off a strong showing at the All-Ohio Championships, with the women coming in fourth out of 35, and the men coming in sixth out of 37.
Redshirt senior Madison Sury (Waterford, Ohio) and junior Hailey Bowes (Arlington Heights, Ill.) ran well for Ohio, finishing in sixth and seven place overall, with times of 22:28.7 and 22:30.2 respectively. On the men's side, redshirt junior Griffin Butler (Newark, Ohio) finished in the top-10 in the 8K race with a time of 25:46.2.
Ohio field hockey comes off a tough loss to conference opponent Kent State last saturday, 5-1. The Bobcats look to rebound on Saturday with their third game of MAC play against Longwood at 12 p.m. Then, they'll take on their third ranked opponent of the season when #15 Ohio State comes to Pruitt Field.
Junior Leah Warren (Hamilton, New Zealand) and redshirt senior Kendall Ballard (Charlottesville, Va.) currently lead with team in goals with four-a-piece, with Ballard taking the points lead 12-8. Freshman Katelyn Whittle (Glendwood, Md.) has converted on most of her opportunites, scoring her first three career goals on just five shots, recording the best shot percentage on the team.
The Bobcats have an opportunity to defeat their first ranked opponent since 2012 when they took down #15 Wake Forest on the road in double overtime.

The men's golf team has a short turnaround after competing in the Firestone Invitational earlier this week (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) in Akron, Ohio, where the Bobcats finished 14th with a combined team total of 904 (+40). Junior Austin Dyson (Dublin, Ohio) was the high finisher for the Bobcats, tying for 34th place with a 222 (+6).

Ohio women's golf returns to action for its second to last tournament of the fall season Oct. 7-8 when they head to the 2019 Fall Preview. The event is hosted by Akron at the Silver Lake Country Club in Silver Lake, Ohio.
The Bobcats are coming off of a 10th-place finish at the 2019 EMU Shirley Spork Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 1), where they finished the tournament with a total score of 951 (+87).
Sophomore Alicia Porvasnik (Hinckley, Ohio) was the high finisher for Ohio, finishing with a tournament total of 234 (+18), tying her for 34th place.
