ATHENS, Ohio– The Largemouth Brass Band is set to perform a free pregame concert beginning at 11:45 a.m. ET in the Bobcat Nation Pavilion outside Peden Stadium on Saturday (Aug. 31). The performance will be part of the pregame celebration leading up to the Ohio football team's 2019 season opener against Rhode Island. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
Based in Athens, The Largemouth Brass Band combines traditional New Orleans second-line charts with funky jazz fusion and performs hip-hop originals and covers.
The band is comprised of both current and former Ohio University students including Taylor Leonard (trumpet), Ian Harrah (trumpet), Frankie Wantuch (alto saxophone), Ben Baker (tenor/bari saxophone), Chris Hines (trombone), Ben Stingo (trombone), Jocelyn Smallwood (sousaphone) and Seth Alexander (drums). Many of the band members teach at universities and school districts around Ohio, as well as private lessons, to support the band's mission of music education. Following the 2019 release of their debut album, LARGEMOUTH, the band maintains a regular performance schedule playing at venues and festivals all around Ohio and the Midwest.
