ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio Athletics will recognize the recipients of the 2018 University Professor (UP) award during the men's basketball team's game against Ball State on Saturday (Jan. 26) at the Convocation Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. The four Ohio professors who received the award last April are Rachida Aissaoui (Management), Jennifer L. Fredette (Political Science), Zaki Kuruppalil (Engineering Technology and Management) and Brittany L. Peterson (Communication Studies).
"We wish to congratulate these outstanding faculty members for their excellence in academics," said Ohio Director of Athletics Jim Schaus. "They are what makes Ohio University so special."
The University Professor award recognizes outstanding teaching at the University. Since its founding in 1970, the UP program has recognized over 200 professors for their teaching excellence.
Each honored faculty receives a monetary stipend and the opportunity to teach a course of their choosing as a means of enriching the undergraduate curriculum.
Recipients are chosen annually from nominations collected from the Ohio student body each fall semester. A selection committee composed of 10–14 undergraduate students then holds intensive interviews with ten faculty finalists and observes each of them in class.
