ATHENS, Ohio – The Bobcat swimming and diving team welcomed fellow Mid-American Conference swim teams to the Ohio University Aquatic Center as they host the 2018 Swimming and Diving MAC Championships (Feb 21-24). Action began tonight (Feb. 21) with the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay.
Ohio kicked off competition in the 200 medley relay where the Bobcat team consisting of senior Caroline Raley (Mobile, Ala.), sophomore Emilia Lahtinen (Ylojarvi, Finland), junior Corrin Van Lanen (Green Bay, Wis.), and sophomore Emily Zimcosky (Smock, Pa.) placed sixth overall with a final time of 1:41.57. Akron secured first place with a time of 1:37.20.
The final relay of the night was the 800 freestyle relay where team consisting of freshman Hannah Schlegel (Birdsboro, Pa.), freshman Samantha Glass (Villa Hills, Ky.), junior Ana Henderson (Danville, Calif.), and junior Emily Davis (Lexington, Ky.) finished seventh with a time of 7:27.71. Akron wen two for two on the night with another first-place finish and a time of 7:09.92 to set a new conference record.

Ohio and the rest of the 2018 MAC Championship teams will start Day Two with the preliminary rounds of the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and the 1-meter dive beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the doors opening to the public at 9:30. For the evening session and final rounds, doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and competition will begin at 6:30 p.m.
