ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio swimming and diving competes as a team for the first time in the 2018 portion of the season on Friday, Jan. 20. The Bobcats are set to compete against Mid-American Conference foe, Akron, starting at 1 p.m. in the Zip's home pool, the Ocasek Natatorium.
The Bobcats' last meet was canceled due to inclement weather, however, the Ohio divers traveled to compete at the Buffalo Diving Invite.
The Invite kicked off with the three-meter dive. In the preliminary round, junior Nicole Hughes (Cleveland, Ohio) scored 228.20 to place 13th and sophomore Ryleigh Tuck-Macalla (Bay Village, Ohio) scored 219.50 to place 16th.
The divers finished weekend competing in the one-meter dive. Hughes scored 233.30 to place sixth in the preliminary round and finished third in the championships with a score of 257.60. Tuck-Macalla just missed the finals by placing 13th with a score of 192.50.
Akron welcomes the 'Cats after opening the New Year by beating Toledo 158-85 by securing ten first-place finishes in the 13 events.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE ZIPS
Ohio last competed against Akron at last season's Mid-American Conference Championships where Akron claimed their fourth-straight MAC Title with a total of 705 points scored throughout the meet. Before that, Ohio welcomed the Zips to Athens to compete in a dual where Akron prevailed with a score of 167-133.
