ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio wrestling team (6-4, 4-2 MAC) hosts No. 18 Northern Iowa in a Mid-American Conference match on Friday (Jan. 27). Action is slated to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
The first 150 fans to Friday's match receive a camo Ohio Wrestling t-shirt.
OHIO RANKED NO. 17 IN NWCA MID-MAJOR DUALS POLL
The National Wrestling Coaches Association announced the formation a Top-20 Mid-Major Duals Poll on Thursday (Jan. 26).
In the first poll, Ohio was ranked 17th. Ohio is 6-4 in duals this season. The Bobcats have earned victories over West Virginia, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois and Buffalo, who was ranked 14th in the poll. The Bobcats have also earned victories over UT Chattanooga (26-13) and Kent State, where the Bobcats took the Grudge Match by a 43-2 margin with nine victories, three of which were by fall.
Cornell was ranked first in the poll, with Northern Iowa and Central Michigan joined Ohio and Buffalo as the only other MAC teams to be ranked in the top-20. Northern Iowa and Central Michigan were ranked third and fourth respectively.
FORRIDER IS ON FIRE
Junior Noah Forrider (Marysville, Ohio) is putting together an impressive 2016-17 season. Forrider is 21-3 on the season. Of the three matches he has lost this season, only one has been by more than two points. In the MAC, Forrider is 5-1 with his lone loss coming on a 3-2 decision to Missouri's Zach Synon.
Outside of duals, Forrider has placed in the two open tournaments he wrestled in this season. Forrider took first place at the Bearcat Open and fifth at the Navy Classic in the 141-class.
Northern Iowa has lost just two matches this season and is 4-0 in MAC play. Their two losses came to No. 6 Virginia Tech and No. 16 Wisconsin.
The Panthers had a close call against Central Michigan when the two teams ended the dual tied, but the Panthers were awarded the match based on most points earned in each individual match.
LAST TIME OUT
Ohio took last season's match in a narrow 18-17 victory over UNI.
The Bobcats return to action on Friday (Feb. 3) when they travel to Clarion. Action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
