MALE SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Name: Kade Kowalski
Position: 149 pounds
Year: Redshirt Freshman
Week's Achievements: Redshirt freshman 149-pounder Kade Kowalski (Nashport, Ohio) helped the Ohio wrestling team (6-4, 4-2 MAC) thrash Mid-American Conference rival Kent State, 43-2, on Sunday (Jan. 22) at the M.A.C. Center in Kent, Ohio. Kowalski and Kent State redshirt freshman Tim Rooney were tied at 2-2 heading into the final period. Kowalski started on top in the final frame and road out the entire period to take the match on riding time in a 3-2 decision victory.
FEMALE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Name: Laura Dawson
Sport: Swimming & Diving
Position: Backstroke, Butterfly, Freestyle
Week's Achievements: Senior Laura Dawson (Newcastle Upon Tyne, England) helped the Ohio swimming & diving team prevail over Duquesne and Xavier in a home double dual meet last Saturday (Jan. 21), where the Bobcats won 13 of the 14 events held. Dawson raced in four events and finished first in three of the. She started the afternoon as the lead in the 400-yard medley relay where the team finished first with a 3:49.88 time. She then earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.84. In the 200-yard backstroke, she won with a 2:03.56 time. In her final event of the day, Dawson finished the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.02.
