ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio wrestling team (4-4, 2-1 MAC) takes aim at a third-straight Mid-American Conference dual victory as it travels to Mount Pleasant, Mich., to take on Central Michigan (3-5, 2-2 MAC) on Sunday (Feb. 3) at McGuirk Arena. Action is scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m. ET, and the matchup will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Ohio is coming off of a thrilling 21-18 come-from-behind win over Northern Illinois last Sunday (Jan. 27) in DeKalb, Ill. The Bobcats erased a 12-point deficit by winning the final four bouts to beat the Huskies. Ohio began its comeback at 125 pounds, with redshirt junior Shakur Laney (Canal Winchester, Ohio) picking up a 6-4 win by decision to improve to 3-0 on the season in conference action. Redshirt sophomore Mario Guillen (Perrysburg, Ohio) cut Ohio's deficit to six points with a 3-1 sudden victory at 133. Guillen is now 8-1 on the year -- including a 3-0 mark in MAC matches. Senior Cameron Kelly (Bellbrook, Ohio) then swung momentum in favor of the Bobcats by tying the team score at 18-all courtesy of a 4:47 victory by fall at 141. Kelly earned his third pin of the year and improved to 10-2 in 2018-19 -- including a 3-0 mark in league matches. Redshirt freshman Alec Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) then delivered the win for Ohio, coming away victorious in an 8-6 tiebreaker at 149. The match opened at 157, with redshirt junior Zac Carson (Akron, Ohio) picking up a 3-2 win by decision. Carson is now 15-5 on the year. Making his Ohio debut, graduate student Derek Hillman (Woodhaven, Mich.) provided his new team with its only other victory in the first six bouts, winning by a 3-1 score in sudden victory at 197.
Central Michigan is coming off of a 23-15 home loss to North Dakota State on Jan. 24. The Chippewas defeated SIUE, 32-10, in its last MAC match on Jan. 20. Led by head coach Tom Borrelli, Central Michigan was tied for fifth with Northern Illinois in the second January MAC coaches' rankings. Four Chippewas are ranked in their respective weight classes in the MAC. Sophomore Matt Stencel is ranked first at 285 pounds while sophomore Drew Hildebrandt is ranked third at 125, junior Logan Parks is ranked fourth at 157 and senior Jordan Atienza is ranked fourth at 184.

Ohio will close out the home portion of its 2018-19 schedule next weekend at the Convocation Center by hosting a pair of MAC dual meets, welcoming Old Dominion on Friday (Feb. 8) for a 6 p.m. ET matchup and SIUE on Saturday (Feb. 9) for a 1 p.m. ET showdown. The Bobcats will put a wrap on the program's 100th anniversary celebration, honoring the program's All-Americans prior to the Old Dominion dual and the four national champions prior to the SIUE dual. The SIUE dual will also serve as Ohio's Senior Day celebration.
