Ohio Wrestling Heads To Annapolis For 41st Annual Navy Classic

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio wrestling team heads to Annapolis, Md., to take part in the 41st Annual Navy Classic on Saturday (Nov. 17) at Wesley Brown Field House. The action gets underway at 10 a.m. FloArena will provide live scoring of the event.

The Bobcats are set to compete against host Navy, Air Force, American, Brown, Bucknell, Campbell, Cleveland State, Delaware Valley, Edinboro, George Mason, Indiana, Kent State, Michigan State, Old Dominion and Oregon State.

Ohio opened the 2018-19 season at the Michigan State Open on Nov. 3, with nine individuals earning top-five finishes. Two Bobcats came away with first-place finishes, with redshirt sophomore Mario Guillen (Perrysburg, Ohio) winning at 133 in the open bracket and freshman Colt Yinger (Nelsonville, Ohio) winning at 165 in the freshman/sophomore bracket.

The Bobcats competed in their first dual meet of the year last Saturday (Nov. 10) in Buies Creek, N.C., falling to host Campbell, 19-13. Redshirt sophomore Nick Vestal (Wilmington, Ohio) earned a 6-3 decision at 157. Yinger came away with a 16-6 major decision win at 165. Redshirt senior Zack Parker (Felton, Del.) won by a 6-3 decision in the heavyweight bout while Guillen delivered a win by a 4-3 decision at 133.

On Thursday (Nov. 15), the Mid-American Conference released its November weight class individual rankings as well as its team rankings. Ohio boasts seven student-athletes ranked in the top-four of their respective weight classes in the league and is ranked third in the conference as a team with 14 points behind Missouri (29 points) and Old Dominion (19 points).

Following a bye week, Ohio will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 30, for a 7 p.m. dual meet against Appalachian State in Boone, N.C.
