BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- The Ohio wrestling team (0-1) jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead but ultimately fell to host Campbell (1-0), 19-13, today at Carter Gym in the first dual meet of the 2018-19 season for the Bobcats.
The match began at the 157-pound weight class, with redshirt sophomore Nick Vestal (Wilmington, Ohio) knocking off Campbell freshman Matthew Dallara in a 6-3 decision.
Ohio's lead grew to 7-0 when freshman Colt Yinger (Nelsonville, Ohio) recorded a 16-6 major decision win over freshman Cameron Pine at 165.
The Fighting Camels won the next three weight classes to take a 10-7 lead, however, with redshirt junior Andrew Morgan taking at 8-0 major decision at 174, sophomore Chris Kober notching an 8-6 decision at 184 and senior Austin McNeill earning a 5-3 decision at 197.
The Bobcats took victories in two of the next three weight classes to even it up at 13-all. Redshirt senior heavyweight Zack Parker (Felton, Del.) picked up a win by a 9-6 decision over Campbell junior Odgerel Batkhishig to tie the score at 10-all. Sophomore Korbin Meink earned a 4-1 decision at 125 to briefly put the Fighting Camels back in front, but redshirt sophomore Mario Guillen (Perrysburg, Ohio) delivered a win by a 4-3 decision at 133 to knot things back up again.
Unfortunately for Ohio, redshirt senior Nathan Boston and redshirt sophomore Josh Heil both took wins by 8-2 decisions at 141 and 149, respectively, to cement the win for Campbell.
Ohio heads to Annapolis, Md., next Saturday (Nov. 17) to take part in the Navy Classic.
