ATHENS, Ohio– The Ohio women's golf team returns to action this weekend when they head to University Park, Pa. for the 2018 Nittany Lion Invitational, hosted by Penn State. The two-day event will take place Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23 at the 6,322-yard Penn State Blue Course. Par is set at 72, with both days scheduled to begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
The 16 teams that will compete at this year's tournament include: Akron, Bucknell, Georgetown, High Point, Ohio, Penn State, University of Pennsylvania, Rollins, Rutgers, Santa Clara, Seton Hall, Navy, Washington, Xavier, Yale and Youngstown State.
Competing for the Bobcats at this year's event are seniors Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio), Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio) and Chloe McKinzie (Medina, Ohio), junior Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.) and freshman Catherine Loftus (Roswell, Ga.).
Through the first two tournaments of the season, Hughes has led Ohio, finishing in the top-10 in both events for the Bobcats, while averaging a 74.67 stroke average. Hughes has also recorded rounds of 70 and 71 for the Bobcats this season. Smiley has also been solid for the Bobcats, averaging a 75.50 stroke average through the first six rounds of play.
Last year at the Nittany Lion Invitational, the Bobcats finished in ninth place and were led by Smiley, who finished tied for ninth-place, after shooting a 71 in the final round to help her finish +2.
Maryland won last year's event after finishing -1 on the weekend.
