NAPERVILLE, Ohio –The Ohio women's golf team wrapped up play at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Northern Illinois at the Naperville Country Club on Sunday, finishing the tournament in eighth place after shooting a 323 to give them a tournament total of 957 (+93). Senior Lily Pendy was also named the 2018 MAC Sportswoman of the Year.
Kent State won the team championship for the 20th-straight year after finishing with a tournament total of 853 (-11).
Leading Ohio was junior Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio) who finished in 23rdplace after shooting a final round score of 78, giving her a three-day total of 237 (+21).
Pendy (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) finished the tournament tied for 24thplace after shooting a final round score of 81, giving her a three-day tournament total of 238 (+22). Junior Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio) was next, finishing tied for 26thplace after shooting an 82 on Sunday, giving her a total of 239 (+23)
Freshman Ashley Flynn (Dublin, Ohio) wrapped up her first MAC Championships tied for 44thplace after shooting an 83 in the final round. Her score gave her a three-round total of 249 (+33).
Rounding out the Bobcats is sophomore Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.) who finished in 46thplace after recording an 82 on Sunday. Her score helped give her a tournament total of 250 (+34).
Pendy was also named the MAC Sportswoman of the Year. It is the fifth time in the past seven years that a Bobcat has earned the MAC Sportswoman of the Year honor.
On the course, Pendy finished the 2017/18 regular season competing in all eight events for the Bobcats. In 21 rounds, she recorded 1,723 strokes for a season average of 77.86. Pendy's highest finish came at the 2017 KZoo Classic where she finished the tournament in sixth place. Pendy finished the first and third rounds with a 75, while shooting a second-round score of 77, giving her a three-round score of 227 (+11). Pendy finished the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational tied for 12thplace. While there, she shot a 79 in the first round and came back for a second day score of 74. She wrapped up the tournament with a 76 to finish with a 229 (+13). Pendy's lowest round of the season came at the Rio Verde Invitational where in the second round, she shot a season-low of 72, helping her finish the tournament tied for 16thplace after posting a final score of 227 (+11). Pendy Finished the tournament with three top-20 performances and five top-50 performances during the season.
Off the course, Pendy excelled in the classroom. In May she will graduate with a degree in Communication Studies with a certificate in Social Media. Pendy registers a 3.56 GPA and has been named to the AD's Honor Roll every semester and has been named to the Dean's list three times. Pendy is also an active mender in the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority on campus at Ohio and has been since Sept. of 2015, where she attends weekly meetings to support and engage in organizational activities. Pendy also served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at Ohio.
This past summer, Pendy served as a Communication and Customer Service Intern at the Healthy Living and Medical Supply in Detroit. While there, Pendy worked with customers to resolve issues to maintain a positive customer experience. She also sent mass campaigns to re-engage former clients and reach out to existing customers and assisted with running the company's social media platforms, and authored and posted relevant blogs to the company website.
