Athens, Ohio— The Ohio women's golf team returns to the green for the start of its spring season Monday, Feb. 5 and Tuesday, Feb. 6 when it competes in the 2018 Women's Mid-American Match Play Challenge hosted by Bowling Green. The two-day, 72-hole tournament will take place at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club on the 6,068-yard King's Dune course in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
The Bobcats will enter the challenge as the seventh seed and will take Dayton in the first round that tees off Monday, Feb. 5 at 7:50 a.m. Second round matchups will begin immediately following round one. The second day of competition begins with round three on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 7:50 a.m. with round four immediately to follow. Fans can follow along with the bracket here.
The field includes 12 teams: Akron, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, Florida Gulf Coast, Fort Wayne, Kent State, Northern Illinois, Ohio, UNC Ashville, and Western Michigan.
Lamar captured the tournament win in 2017, defeating Florida Gulf Coast. Northern Illinois has won the competition before, claiming victory in 2015. Other past champions include Toledo in 2014 and Kent State in 2016.
The Bobcats closed out their fall season placing sixth at the 2017 Shirley Spork EMU Invitational in Ypsilanti, Mich. on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Lily Pendy led the way for the Bobcats in that tournament, finishing the final round tied for 12th place, 13 over par.
Fans will be able to check results on golfstat.com, however it will not be updated hole-by-hole, but after every nine holes.
Up next, the Bobcats will head to Rio Verde, Ariz. for the 2018 Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational Feb. 23-25.
