LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Ohio softball coaching staff has been recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as the 2018 Division I East Regional Coaching Staff of the Year, the organization announced on Tuesday (June 12).
Led by 10th-year head coach Jodi Hermanek and her staff of assistant coaches Jillian Van Wagnen and Jeremy Manley and volunteer assistant Brooke Donovan, the Bobcats went 40-17 in 2018, posting back-to-back 40-win seasons for the first in program history. With a record of 20-3 in league play, Ohio captured its first Mid-American Conference regular season crown since 1995.
Ohio then went a perfect 4-0 in 2018 MAC Championship play, culminating in a 2-0 shutout of Northern Illinois in the conference title game to punch its ticket to the 2018 NCAA Championship field. As the No. 3 seed in the Knoxville Regional, the Bobcats recorded their first two NCAA postseason wins in program history, earning a pair of eliminate game wins over Monmouth (4-0) and James Madison (7-3) on May 19 to earn a spot in the regional finals.
Three Ohio players earned NFCA All-Mideast Region Team selection, with senior pitcher Danielle Stiene and junior third baseman Alex Day being named to the first team and redshirt junior outfielder Michaela Dorsey being named to the third team. Stiene was also honored as the MAC Pitcher of the Year.
