ATHENS, Ohio –Ohio softball senior pitcher Danielle Stiene was named the Mid-American Conference East Pitcher of the Week for her performance the week of March 26, the league announced today.
This is the second time this year that Stiene has earned the honor.
Stiene (Loveland, Ohio) led Ohio in the circle this past week, helping Ohio to a 4-0 record and another sweep during conference play to help open MAC play 6-0 for the first time ever. Overall, Stiene went 2-0 in three appearances. She made two starts and had two complete games in 19.0 innings of work. She registered a 1.47 ERA and allowed four runs on seven hits. She walked four and struck out 26 batters while opponents only hit .111 against her.
On March 27 against Pitt, Stiene was solid, pitching all seven innings in the 6-1 victory. She allowed one run on one hit, walked two and struck out 10 of the 25 batters that she faced.
Stiene returned to the circle on March 30 against Eastern Michigan, once again getting the start. She pitched the seven-inning complete game, allowing one run on four hits, she walked one and struck out 12 of the 26 EMU batters that she faced. At one point. Stiene struck out nine in a row in the 6-1 win.
Stiene come out and pitched the final five innings of Ohio's 4-3 win against EMU on Saturday, going five innings, allowing two runs on two hits, walking one and striking out four.
The Bobcats return to action today (April 3) when the Bobcats host MAC East foe Kent State in a doubleheader set to begin at 3 p.m. at the OSF.
