ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio softball team will begin its fall season this weekend, starting Saturday, Sept. 23 as the Bobcats host a doubleheader with the Thundering Herd of Marshall. First pitch is set for Noon at the Ohio Softball Field. Ohio will then conclude the weekend facing Ohio Dominican and Ohio Valley on Sunday, Sept. 24. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the OSF.
The Bobcats will face-off against Marshall starting at noon at the Ohio Softball Field. Marshall is coming off of a 42-12 record last season, with a 20-4 record in C-USA play. The Herd are also coming off of a trip to the NCAA Regionals.
On Sunday, Ohio's matches against Ohio Dominican and Ohio Valley begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. Last Season, the Panthers finished with a 27-22 record and tallied 14 wins in conference play with eight losses. OVU finished last season with a 14-30 record, going 8-18 in conference play.
Returning to the field is redshirt senior Taylor Saxton (Circleville, Ohio). In the 2017 campaign, Saxton was tied for second on the team in runs scored, and third on the team in batting average (.313) and hits (51). She also led the team in stolen bases last season with 18.
Also, returning to the mound is senior pitcher Danielle Stiene (Loveland, Ohio) after she posted a 14-8 record last season, pitching 137.0 innings and striking out 167 batters along the way. Stiene also garnered a 2.40 ERA in 28 appearances on the hill for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will wrap up fall play the following week, as Ohio will host Cedarville in a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 30, starting at 4 p.m. at the OSF.
