GolfStat Live Scoring 2018 Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play Day One Results
DADE CITY, Fla. -- The No. 7-seeded Ohio men's golf team bounced back from a 4-2 loss to No. 2-seeded Eastern Michigan with a 4-1-1 triumph over No. 6-seeded DePaul on Monday (Feb. 12) as competition opened at the 2018 Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play at Lake Jovita Country Club.
The Bobcats defeated the Blue Demons in the consolation bracket semifinals of the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play for the second year in a row.
In the quarterfinal match against the Eagles, junior Ben Sattler (Liberty Township Ohio) defeated Eastern Michigan senior Nic Ross, 3&2, while redshirt senior Tom Nettles (McMurray, Pa.) topped freshman Cougar Collins, 4&3.
Other first round action saw No. 1-seeded Miami knock off No. 8 Loyola, 5-1, No. 4-seeded Ball State down No. 5-seeded Drake, 5-1, and No. 3-seeded Toledo top No. 6-seeded DePaul, 4-2.
The Bobcats then battled the Blue Demons in the semifinal match. Senior Brady Bohl (Dublin, Ohio) beat freshman Joe McCarthy, 2&1. Sattler knocked off senior Freddy Thomas, 1up. Nettles bested senior Bobby Thomas, 5&4. Freshman Zach Crawford (Vandalia, Ohio) defeated junior Ronnie Griggs, 3&2.
In the championship bracket, Miami came out on top against Ball State while Toledo advanced over Eastern Michigan after finishing all squared based on winning its matches in one fewer hole. The other consolation bracket match saw Drake beat Loyola, 4-1-1.
Ohio will face Drake in the fifth-place match on Tuesday (Feb. 13). Miami will take on Toledo in the championship match. The third-place match will feature Ball State against Eastern Michigan while Loyola and DePaul will compete for seventh place. Third-round action opens with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. ET.
