ATHENS, Ohio—The Ohio men's golf team begins its spring season with the 2018 Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play at Lake Jovita Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
The two-day event, which will be held Monday (Feb. 12) and Tuesday (Feb. 13) will consist of 54 holes of match play competition. Teams are seeded one through eight based upon Golfstat rankings and then placed into a bracket. Each team match will consist of six individual matches. All teams are guaranteed three matches with losing teams from the first and second rounds continuing to compete in a consolation bracket. Ohio finished in sixth place last year while Notre Dame won the event.
Formerly known as the Mid-American Match Play, the event was renamed in 2015 in honor of Earl Yestingsmeier, who passed away in January 2014 at age 80. Yestingsmeier spent 36 seasons leading the Ball State men's golf program, including 31 in a dual role as sports information director and golf coach.
Competing for the Bobcats will be senior Brady Bohl (Dublin, Ohio), redshirt senior Tom Nettles (McMurray, Pa.), junior Ben Sattler (Liberty Township, Ohio) and freshmen Zach Crawford (Vandalia, Ohio), Tanner Johnson (Venetia, Pa) and Austin Dyson (Dublin, Ohio). This will mark the collegiate debut for both Johnson and Dyson. First round matchups will be announced in the coming days. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
The Bobcats will be back in action next week (Feb. 17-18) in Savannah, Ga., to compete in the Invitational at Savannah Harbor.
