Bobcat Alums Meet In AFC Divisional Playoff Game

ATHENS, Ohio – The upcoming AFC Divisional round playoff game featuring the Jacksonville Jaguars and Pittsburgh Steelers will showcase two Ohio football alumni facing off against each other in outside linebacker Blair Brown of the Jaguars and free safety Mike Mitchell of the Steelers.

Mitchell played at Ohio from 2005-08 and was picked in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders with the 47th overall pick. He is currently in his ninth NFL season and fourth with the Pittsburgh Steelers after stints with the Carolina Panthers and Raiders and is regarded as one of the most physical safeties in the game.

Mitchell has 53 total tackles and 35 solo stops this season having started in 13 games this season for the Steelers. He has 486 career tackles including 357 solo stops during his career while also having 10 career interceptions and seven forced fumbles.

Brown meanwhile is in the midst of his rookie season after playing for the Bobcats from 2013-16. Brown was taken in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Jaguars with the 148th overall pick after being named an All-American by Pro Football Focus and was a First Team All-MAC selection at linebacker.

Brown has played in 14 games this season for the Jaguars and made two starts. He has 20 tackles including logging a season-high five tackles in the Jaguars opening-round playoff win over Buffalo as the No. 2 WLB on the depth chart.
