ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio football program and head coach Frank Solich announced redshirt senior linebacker Quentin Poling (Gomer, Ohio), redshirt junior running back A.J. Ouellette (Covington, Ohio), redshirt senior tight end Troy Mangen (Union, Ohio), redshirt junior offensive lineman Joe Lowery (Tallmadge, Ohio) and redshirt sophomore safety Javon Hagan (Jacksonville, Fla.) have been chosen as team captains for the upcoming 2017 season.
Ouellette and Poling return for their second-straight years as team captains. Poling started in all 14 games a year ago and ranked second on the squad with 110 total tackles including 67 solo stops en route to being named First Team All-MAC. Poling also had four sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss, while forcing three fumbles and logging five pass breakups.
Ouellette took just three snaps in 2016 before being sidelined with an injury. In 2015, Ouellette racked up 774 total yards including 687 on the ground averaging 59.5 yards per game while scoring six rushing touchdowns.
Mangen started in all 14 games last season catching 15 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown.
Lowery made 13 starts and helped anchor an offensive line which gave up just 19 sacks through the season and averaged 26.3 points per game and 392.3 yards per game including 167.9 rushing yards per game.
Hagan had a breakout redshirt freshman campaign seeing action in all 14 games. He ranked fifth on the team with 53 tackles including 35 solo stops. He led the team with three interceptions and six forced fumbles en route to being named First Team All-MAC and MAC Freshman of the Year.
The Bobcats open fall camp on Monday and host Hampton to open the season Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. at Peden Stadium.
